I wanted to start this blog topic of The 7 Seven Steps To Network Marketing Success with a definition of what network marketing actually means, because most people don’t have a foundational understanding of what it means to by a network marketing.

 

Definition Of Network Marketing

A sales strategy in which a salesperson attends meetings of organizations whose members are likely to be interested in a particular product or service in order to develop a book of business. The three major components of network marketing involve prospecting (finding sources of potential customers), following up with inquiries from interested parties, and selling the good or service to the prospect. Once prospects are cultivated, the salesperson will try to use his or her relationships with the prospect to get in contact with other individuals that the prospect might know.

There is a real shift from working a normal everyday 9-5 to the world of network marketing. People from all walks of life are deciding that they have had enough of the rigors of working for someone else. Here is a hard truth, if you don’t cultivate and build your dream, someone will hire you to build theirs. So it is vital that you have an outlet for generating an income. There is no better way to do that than entering the network marketing space. However, many enter this space and fail miserably because they are doing it the wring way. So below I want to give you a brief list of things that will make your journey a successful one.

Step One:  Pick it and Stick it. 

The first step toward becoming a success in this profession is to pick a company and stop looking for opportunity elsewhere.  Every moment you spend looking around is time that could be invested in productive activities that build the company you are already in.

You can make money in lots of companies.  In fact…ANY legitimate, real network marketing business is a place where if you decide to “hang your hat” can become a productive source of income for you.  Time is ticking.  Every moment you spend dilly-dallying around is costing you money.  Pick a horse and ride it.  If it knocks you off, get back on.  And trust me…it will knock you off.  Your objective is to keep getting back on the horse even when it takes you for a wild ride.

 

 

Step Two:  Remove your Emotions

This is a business, not a dating game.  You must remove any and all emotional responses to what happens WHILE building the business.  It can be very easy to become discouraged or frustrated when you let your emotions come into play.I realize that we are all human and humans have emotions.  However, you get to CHOOSE how you react to specific situations you encounter in the field.When a prospect who you THOUGHT was going to join, decides not to, or decides to join another opportunity, that is simply life, and life in this business.  Get over it.  Move on.  Don’t hold onto it and don’t get depressed or down over it.  Leaders don’t allow their emotions to get the best of them.Understand this clearly.  You will have people come and go.  You will have situations where you feel that someone is going to “knock it out of the park” for you and then they do nothing.  You will also have the opposite occur.  You’ll likely sponsor someone who you thought couldn’t even do the deal and they become one of your best reps.The key in all of this is to treat it like a business, and not allow your emotions to play tricks on you.  Remember, YOU DECIDE how you react.  Your emotions are controllable.  So…control them.

 

 

 

Step Three:  Get your Priorities in Line. 

Do what makes you money.  Focus your time doing things that specifically generate money for you.  The only thing that directly leads to revenue is signing up new reps and selling your product.  Anything else is secondary.Look at your day.  Track yourself.  Are you spending most of your time conducting revenue producing activities, or are you simply being busy doing stuff that doesn’t really matter?If you are having a hard time being focused, stop every hour and quickly review what you’ve done the prior 60-minutes.  If you weren’t prospecting or talking to people about what you do, then you’ve likely got your priorities mixed up. Things like blog posts, placing ads, and personal development should be done during DOWN time, not during PRIME time.  Prime Time is any time where you could be talking to another human being about your business.  And…while everyone keeps different schedules, the reality is that most people sleep at night.  So Prime Time for prospecting in network marketing is usually from 7am to 10pm at night in whatever time zone that person is in.

 

 

Step Four:  Follow the Leader. 

Don’t make the mistake of trying to do it “your way”.  If you’ve never made money in this business, then follow someone who has.Too many successful people, who’ve had success OUTSIDE of network marketing think it’s ok to do it “their” way.  They don’t have a way.  They’re new.If you want to be successful in network marketing, follow the lead of someone who is making money in network marketing.  Be humble.  You don’t need to be right.  It’s better to make money in this business than having to be right all the time.I can’t think of a single company where you couldn’t find someone to emulate.  Look at the biggest leaders in the business you are in, and follow their lead.  Do whatever you can to COPY what it is that they are doing.  Playing COPY CAT is a very good thing in this profession…or anything else for that matter.If you want to be good at anything, it’s a good idea do follow someone else who is good at it and do what they’re doing.

 

 

 

Step Five:  Don’t Stop. 

Just when you feel like quitting is typically when you are about to have your biggest breakthrough moment.  Do yourself and your check a favor and stick to your plan. Quitting never worked for anyone.  I promise that it won’t work for you either.  Stay UNTIL it happens.One of your greatest challenges will be your willingness to stick to it during tough times.  Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Nothing truly worthwhile happens overnight.I know you probably hate hearing this, but the raw truth is that success in this business takes time.  Volume takes time to accumulate.  People take time to figure this out.  Your group will not grow to thousands in a month.   Your check won’t either.It is imperative that you exercise patience in the face of your work and the challenges that come along with it.  The only way to fail in this business is to quit.If you don’t stop, you’ll get there.  You just might get there at a different time than you expected.  In fact, most people over-promise and under-deliver on their own expectations when it comes to making it in network marketing.  Hang tight.  Keep your head down and stay after it.

 

 

 

Step Six:  Develop your Skills. 

You need skills in this business.  Skills take time to acquire.  The good news is that you CAN acquire them if you decide to.Skills are acquired in one of two ways.The first way is by being in action and learning through experience.  You can’t acquire skills by staring at your phone or avoiding your lead list.  The only way to begin to get better is to start taking action.  The more consistent action you take, the better you’ll get.Think about the very first time you made a call and how uncomfortable you may have been.  Perhaps you were even nervous at the thought of making that first call.  You now know, if you’ve made it through your first dozen calls or so that each and every call becomes a bit easier to make. The second way you acquire skills is by studying and then APPLYING what you just learned.  It can be a simple as a conversation with someone where they share something cool with you that they use in their business to produce results.  You then take what you learned and use it.  It could also be something you learned at an event, a seminar, a conference call, a book, a CD or anything else for that matter.

 

 

Step Seven:  Do What you Don’t Feel Like Doing. 

Success comes to people who are willing to stretch and push themselves past their mostly self-imposed limitations.In order for you to grow and get better, you have to be willing to do things that you don’t feel like doing.  You should be pushing yourself just past that “comfort zone” every single day.What was once very uncomfortable and out of your range, now becomes comfortable and easy.  Once that new thing becomes easy, you continue to stretch yourself again.If making five phone calls is hard, double it to ten.  If getting in front of an audience scares you, then do it any way.  If talking to a stranger and engaging them in conversation doesn’t feel good, then do it anyhow.The only way for you to grow is to put yourself in growth situations.

The ability to motivate yourself is necessary if you want to be successful. Everyone struggles to be productive from time to time, but there are several tactics that make it easier to get back on track.

 

Children have the benefit of parents, coaches, and teachers. As adults, we have to learn to manage ourselves. Unfortunately, few of us are taught this skill. We must learn on our own. Take solace in the fact that your peers are in the same situation. Plus, just think of how much ahead of them you’ll be when you learn the art of self-motivation!

 

Try These Techniques Below That Will Help In The Area Of Self-Motivation

 

1. Use pleasure to your advantage. Make a long list of the benefits of taking action. What will you gain? A better body? Improved social life? More money? Self-respect? When you find your motivation lagging, return to this list and rekindle your enthusiasm.

 

2. Use pain to your advantage. If you fail to act, what is the likely outcome? You’ll be forced to live another day in your current existence. Or maybe your financial situation will become a little bit worse. Perhaps your income taxes will be late. Give yourself a list of painful outcomes to avoid.

 

3.Reinforce your lists daily. Read over your lists of positives and negatives each day. Keep them fresh in your mind.

 

4. Take a walk. A change of environment can help to clear your head and increase your level of motivation. It’s a great time to think big thoughts and to consider long-term goals.

7.Make a plan for the day. Before you retire for the evening, make a list of everything you’d like to get done. Most importantly, get started on your list items early in the day. Build momentum and the rest of the day will go more smoothly. Success builds on success.

 

8. Get started. Have you ever noticed that motivation happens after you get busy? It’s interesting how challenging it can be to get started, but how easy it can be to continue. Pull out every trick in the book to make yourself begin. The resistance you feel will decrease markedly.

 

9.Reward yourself regularly. Rewarded behaviors are more likely to reoccur in the future. Give yourself little rewards on a regular basis. You deserve it.

 

10.Compete with yourself. Strive to create small improvements in yourself each week. This can be more motivating than competing against others. There might be plenty of people ahead of you, but you can always do better than you did last week.

 

 11. Eliminate distractions. Everyone has a preferred method of distraction. It could be the internet, television, or ice cream. Avoid allowing yourself to indulge in your distraction until you’ve accomplished something worthwhile. Be strong.

 

When you’re feeling unmotivated, avoid the belief that you’re stuck. There’s always something you can do to lift your spirits and tackle those big projects. Develop the skill to motivate yourself. You can’t be certain which tactics will be successful until you get started.

A lot of us when we just start out in our home business have a limited amount of time because we have so many other commitments to attend to. Like a J.O.B., our families, hobbies etc. Most come into network marketing as a part time gig in order to make some additional income. Especially in today’s economy.

 

 

Well, if you’re spending all your time doing Non-Income Producing Activities such as the ones listed above, you are setting yourself up for nothing but frustration and disappointment.

Here Are My Top Three Income Producing Activities!

If you focus on these three things, 80% of the time, you will experience a lot less frustration and become successful in half the time.

 

1. Share Your Opportunity – Prospecting!

It’s as simple as this… If you are not talking to at least 3 people a day and sharing your opportunity, (5 or 10 would be better) then where will the income, come from?

 

2. Build New Relationships!

This goes hand in hand with prospecting. You have to build the relationship first before you can ever share your opportunity.

Get out and network! Hey these days you don’t even have to leave the house to network, although I suggest you do. There are meet-up groups going on all over the country in every city. Get out an mingle with people, if you’re the type person that shy’s away from socializing, then you need to break old habits, force yourself to get more.

Remember, your not going out there to sell anyone anything! You job at this stage is to build relationships.

 

If time is really limited then spend an hour a day on Facebook or Google + and start up some conversations with people. Friend the interesting people who are talking business and current events. You can join different groups on Facebook, get connected in forums, start to add value to the conversations going on there.  People will take notice and start to look at you as a leader.

 

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT just start hitting them over the head with your new business opportunity. That should be the last thing you discuss. It takes a little time to build a relationship.  Some build faster than others.  It’s all part of the Income Producing Activities.

 

Lead with solutions, not your opportunity! You wouldn’t walk up to a complete stranger and ask them to marry you right? This is no different!

 

The Most Important Of The Income Producing Activities is… (drumroll please!)

 

3. The Follow-Up!

The fortune is in the follow-up as they say and it’s the most overlooked step in the process, for whatever  the reason is.

Believe it or not, many people think that recruiting and sponsoring are the same thing.Did you ever wonder what the difference is between recruiting and sponsoring?

 

So what is the difference? 

Recruiting- When you sign up a new rep to make an immediate commission.
Sponsoring- When you create a relationship and help someone Own their Life.

I never even thought that there was a difference, until I was actually sponsored into a home based business. Now, I realize that over years I’ve been recruited and recruited and recruited into one home based business after another. One opportunity after another. Always wondering why I didn’t have much success. After the revelation that multilevel marketing or network marketing is a relationship business not a sales business, things started to happen for me.

 

I’ve been told in the past, if you want to be a heavy hitter, you have to work the numbers and recruit more reps. If you want to create wealth and a residual income just work the numbers, you know, it’s a numbers game. How many times have you heard that?

 

Well, I’m here to tell you that people are not numbers. That’s the first mistake. Stop going after your warm market. Stop pestering your family and friends and trying to “get them in”. Let’s face it, the faster you can help you’re new distributor to start getting checks – preferably within the first 90 days, the better your chances are that they will stay and continue to produce. Team members that are producing are what will get you to the top levels in your company, period!

So what are the right sponsoring steps to take to ensure more success for your team and greater success for you? Here are the steps to get your new rep started fast:

 

 

1.Go on a fact finding mission. Find out what your newly sponsored rep’s knowledge and skill level is, what resources he or she has (marketing budget, warm market influence, business contacts that respect them, an established blog of Facebook fanpage, etc.), how much time they have to invest in their new business endeavor, etc.

 

2.Use the information you gathered to create a daily action plan that will help them get into profit quickly using the current skills and resources they have. Create a longer term plan of action that includes them getting new skills and improving on existing ones in order to transition smoothly into the next phase of their prospecting plan.

 

3.Hook them up. Introduce them to some productive members of your upline and your team so that they feel part of the group and understand that help is only a phone call or email away.

6.Check in with them regularly. Give assignments and hold them accountable. Encouragement can go a long way with people too.

 

7.Lead by example!! Don’t slip into management mode and stop recruiting. That is a death sentence for your business. Whatever you do, your team will do. Of course, as your team continues to grow, you will need to increase the time teaching and training, but you still need to set aside time to sponsor more people as part of your daily action plan.

 

8.Invest in your best assets. First yourself. Continue to educate yourself and improve your skills as a leader, in MLM recruiting and MLM sponsoring. And second, invest in your team with your time, energy and emotions.
